Liposuction (Suction Lipectomy)
Liposuction, or suction lipectomy, is a surgical procedure that can selectively reduce the fat volume that exists in various areas of the body. Common areas that are reduced with the surgery include the abdomen, legs, hips, buttocks, arms, lateral chest, back and neck.
Fat removal will change the contour of a body area. Expectations need to be reasonable as all the unwanted fat in an area cannot always be removed. Once the fat cells are removed, they are gone forever. However, many thousands of fat cells remain and they will enlarge if calorie intake increases. A person will still gain weight if that person continues to over-eat. However, the contour of an area that has been reduced by liposuction should stay the same. If a person looses weight by calorie reduction or exercise, then the contours of the areas changed by liposuction should also keep their contours.
Liposuction is used in conjunction with other procedures to improve the overall result of the procedure. Surgical procedures such as Abdominoplasty, Breast Reduction and Breast Lifting, Skin Excess Surgery, Gynecomastia Excision, and other face and body surgeries will have associated liposuction to improve the results of the primary surgery.
